Readers Poll

My Readers Poll closed today and the results are in. You can see click on view results here to see for yourself.

Only about 30-odd people filled them out which is interesting in itself as going by my counter an average of 70 people visit everyday. Thanks to those who did fill in!

Male/Female
64% are male and 36% percent female. As I mentioned before this may be because I have a rather liturgical focus and if I’m going on generalities, many Catholic women don’t have a specific love or understanding for the technicalities of the liturgy. For instance, many probably don’t know the reasons for a deep bow over a genuflection. Or when one bows and one turns towards the centre of the altar to bow. Real technical stuff like that! Or it could just be that ladies don’t tend to read blogs.

Age
68% of you are under 35 years of age which 42% being under 25. (Interesting to know if the females are in the 18-25 bracket…) So most of you are around my own age.

Most of you read INDOLENT SERVER because you are interested in knowing what young Catholics get up to. (Nice!) And the second largest group are of people that know me! (Wonder what that says about me…??)

Mass Preference
Very interesting is the fact that more of you prefer a Novus Ordo Mass ad orientem than the Tridentine Rite, which of course I attend on a Sunday and when I can. In the style of The New Liturgical Movement, a massive 76% of you are fans of Mass facing liturgical East. Only one is charismatic and I know who that is.

Effectively this tells me to keep posting what I have been...

Hmmmmmmm... I think this just may be a very subjective interpretation of your results.

I know of many young Catholic women who love the liturgy of the Church and are attentive to detail in how it is carried out.

I know a few, but the comments that are constantly made to me is that "liturgy is a man's thing" or even such quotes as the "Tridentine Rite appeals to males more"!

It reminds me of the crazy feminist arguments that abortion is women's business only...

Perhaps we'd better start praying for a vocation to the priesthood (although I'm sure indolent's dad has already thought of that. . .). :-)

nah, I'll wait. At 30 I could be the most eligible Catholic bachelor in Australia...

Shan, It has even been iterated to me at the 2004 and 2005 ACSA conferences (before I was far too busy to meet anyone!)

Monica, what about the idea that I join the sem for say 6 months. Guys seem to get way mroe attention from girls whilst in the seminary.

These problems seem to be universally present in the Church (or at least here in Canada too). Girls at the doorstep of every seminary. Can you really blame them though? There seems to be a serious shortage of orthodox Catholic males free to marry.

Hmmm I've heard you say this before. Do you really think it's true? I have a lot of seminarian friends but most of them were my friends first before they joined (Be afraid Aaron at my last count there were about 10 or 11 of them). I'm not sure if your plan would work...Hey you could be a case study! Try it and we'll see! :)

Oooooo Shan, "poor approximations there of"? Harsh!!!!

Aaron... just thought I'd let you know, I like your Dad.

Well I have a great interest in liturgy and nothing turns me off more than liturgy done badly. Actually your comment that women don't have a love or understanding for liturgy just reminds me of my own generalisation - that young, orthodox, catholic men do not think that women are intellectually their equal. Maybe my father gave me a false expectation by always speaking to me as an intelligent woman but when I've been in groups of conservative Catholics I've found that the men and women seperate and that the women's conversation is kinda....trivial and then men are not interested in including any women into their own conversations.
I am VERY interested in liturgy and enjoy the Tridentine Mass a great deal. AND I'm a female in the 18-25 bracket (just). Though maybe this is because of my father's influence and vocation......

Hey... it's not just among females... some of the men are pretty damn boring too!

Miss M, I know what I'll do. I set up a post for aaron bashing... you and dad can go chat away in the comments section.

The Indolent's dad's fan club opens tomorrow...

Careful... he might think he's important!

Sorry Aaron, I didn't get my vote in on time... Obviously I'm trad right down the line (even if I have missed a couple of traditional masses recently due to unavoidable circumstances... ok, late nights!)

Are you paid on commission by your diocesan Vocations Office by any chance?

Miss Monification said...

LOL!!! I wish they'd pay me!! I would be one very rich girl if I got commission on my friends!

Oh and by the way dilexitprior, one of my friends mentioned that you were mildly interested in the JPII Institute here in Melbourne. I'm the Assistant Registrar there so if you do have any questions let me know! I can even send you out some stuff.

Shannon... Florists are cool.

Hehehe, I see my friends are at work. . . yes, I'd love to get some more information on the JPII Institute in Australia. I'm very interested in the Theology of the Body and am looking into graduate studies in Theology. I couldn't find your e-mail address on your profile, but I have mine on my profile. Or I could just go the old fashioned way and e-mail the JPII Institute off their website.

By the way, I have a friend of mine coming to Australia to study bioethics at the JPII Institute (I think in January). His name is Paul. Be nice to him. I'll warn him that if he becomes friends with you he might end up in seminary. :-)

Great... I'll be known across the world as the girl to avoid.

BUT, you can now spend all day blogging and truley claim it to be work-related.

Assistant Registrar... is that what they call it? A very fancy name for "go get me a coffee"!
