WYD leaders
ZENIT has an article from Australia about the WYD08 Leaders Course. It is for 18-30 year olds and will be 3 months long with 'live-in' arrangements. To me this is all well and good but 3 months full-time? They are going to miss out on most of the awesome leaders who can't afford that time off work or study. I wonder who came up with the idea? Sure it's great in theory but who in their right mind wants to do a 3 month course in leadership of youth from March to June? Leadership isn't something you can really teach. It's something that an individual grasps or has instinctively.

I have to scan some more in. I've posted all of my all-time favourites but have a stack more.
Like everything else, after exams...
They will miss out on all the Paschal Liturgical goodness - you are right, it is rather limiting, but I'm sure many wonderful people will undertake it nonetheless with much enthusiasm.
In defence of the leadership program, I might just mention that a lot of the three months is spend in catechesis and faith education, a bit of philosophy, theology, liturology, sacramentology, history, apologetics ...etc. you get the picture. Youth/WYD leaders need to be educated in the faith before they are fit to lead, weather or not they are gifted or experienced as leads. I have read a proof of the program and it is all good stuff with hand picked excellent speakers. We all know the poor state of peoples understanding of the doctrines of the faith and if a large number of leaders are to be recruited there is great need for them to be [re/]educated. Trust me, this is a good thing.
The program also has a good does of prayer.
Hey that's not completely fair for those who already know the basics having to sit through primary school stuff all over again.
I reckon they should have a test before they start and have a few classes running at the same time or even have a shorter course for the already formed people.
(wasting time is not a good idea)
Read the fine print. Its a clone of the emmanuel community's program for mission evangelisation. The WYD office is full of them- Dont get me wrong the Emmanuel's are great- but nearly all the pastoral leaders etc are from there, it does not refelct the wider church. It really should be called Emmanuel Community World Youth Day.
